Time has passed since McQueen died. Sarah Burton already did three collections under his name and everyone seems to be happy about her work. I think it was the right choice. She was the right person for the job. She did a beautiful job maintaining McQueen's name alive but lighter, softer, more feminine. In Sarah's collections there is not a single touch of violence, of hardness or even heaviness. Everything is perfect in the world of Sarah Burton. She makes season after season angels climb down from the clouds or mermaids come out of the water and show them to the world. Everything is beautiful and peaceful.
But, just like Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli at Valentino, in my opinion McQueen is becoming beautifully boring. Yes, Sarah does a great job every season. Yes, it is fascinating to see her creations walking down the runway. But now, after these three collections I'm bored. I'm not excited about McQueen anymore like I was when Alexander McQueen was alive. Yes, his creations were heavier and harder, but they were different season after season. No one could guess what McQueen would do next and that for me that is everything in a fashion show. I can imagine already the next collection Burton is doing. And that is not good.
One thing I have to salute Burton is the new adds. She joined David Sims and made the clothes even more beautiful then they were (if that is even possible). She and David created this epic pictures of this Queens and Goddess and is everything you could wish for. When all the campaigns are out and each one seems amazing then it comes the McQueen campaign and it is stunning.

I really would like to be surprised about McQueen again. I would really love to have that feeling again watching a McQueen show. Those rocks of happiness in your stomach after watching the show and having to wait for the words to come up in your mind because you were speechless. McQueen made me speechless, Burton not so much.
